How I Made $356 in 1 Day by Avoiding These 6 ClickBank Mistakes
How are some affiliates able to make $1000’s per day in their sleep, while so many beginners can barely make a single sale all week? This is how I learned to make money on ClickBank.

I started affiliate marketing with ClickBank back in 2005. The first 4.5 months were miserable.
Late nights.
Early mornings.
Entire weekends spent trying to crack the code.
My wife began to question me. I promised her that things were going to change really soon. But they didn’t. In fact, I didn’t see my first sale for almost 6 months! Yep, I was terrible at affiliate marketing. I was ready to give up. Then something changed. I went from not making a single sale to pulling in $356 in ClickBank commissions in just one day. How was this possible?
It started by getting off my damn computer.
Once upon a time on a warm summer’s evening…
It was one of those summer nights in England. The sun had began its descent toward the horizon and the air was still and quiet. After dinner, I decided to drive out of the city to the countryside for a walk and to clear my mind.
During that walk, I started to think about affiliate marketing differently. I wanted to try and understand why people weren’t buying through my affiliate link. Specifically, I started to ask questions like:
- If I had this problem, why wouldn’t I buy this product?
- If I was looking for this solution, why wouldn’t I click on this dude’s link?
The answers made me tear down everything and start again. It seems so obvious now, but back then, I realized I was approaching affiliate marketing all wrong.
Eleven days later, I’d made my first big breakthrough. $356 in one day. This was more than I ever imagined possible in one day or even one week! I guess you could say, I cracked the code. So, what did I do so differently?
Think Like a Buyer
I cracked the code by changing my mindset from “seller” to buyer.” By thinking like a buyer, I could suddenly see that I was making 6 fundamental mistakes – and so from that point, I figured out a way to avoid them.
I guarantee, if you avoid these 6 mistakes, you’ll be able to transform your affiliate marketing results faster than you ever thought possible.
Ready to find out what you’re doing wrong? Let’s dive in.
Mistake #1: Choosing a Product That Doesn’t Have Clear and Predictable Results
Forget percent payouts and gravity scores for a minute. Think like a buyer. A lot of people promote information products that don’t have guaranteed results. I’m not saying you can’t make money promoting these products, but you’re not setting yourself up for success by choosing products that produce consistent results. Wouldn’t you rather promote a product that gets the exact same results, not matter who’s using it?
Trust me. It’s a lot easier to sell a product when the buyer knows they’re going to get the results promised.
Here are some good examples:
-Animation tools
-eBook creators
-Video tools
-Templates
The user will also get desired results from these tools so they’re much easier to sell. The buyer can literally see the product on the screen in action and know that their problem will be solved by the product before they even buy it. Compare this kind of product to, say, promoting a weight loss guide that might not work for the buyer. You can see how promoting a tool with proven results would be easier than information products for beginner affiliates.
Mistake #2: Not Building a List
I know, it means a bit of extra work, but building a list was the biggest breakthrough for me. It allowed me to send out a few emails promoting a product, and, on the 3rd day, a rush of sales came flooding in and viola, I was making money on ClickBank.
Why is email so powerful?
Mostly because people need to hear about a product more than once to make a decision to buy. Email lets you do that. Plus, your own subscribers are more likely to trust your recommendation than a random link being shared on social media or in a forum.
Start by finding a valuable ebook to give away in exchange for people’s emails. If you want to save time and money, try using a tool like Sqribble. It allows anyone with zero design or writing skills to instantly create free reports and ebooks that you can give away to build your list.
I’m the founder of Sqribble.com, I built this tool to help affiliates like you and me to build our email lists fast, without slaving over creating free reports manually, which is extremely time consuming. It’s also a great software to help you create ebooks which you can make and sell fast too.
Once you’ve got your free report ready to give away, use a tool like ClickFunnels to create your optin page ready to collect emails and start building your list.
Mistake #3: Writing Garbage
I know it’s tempting to get your affiliate link out there fast. But if you rush your content, you’ll end up with no sales and a whole heap of wasted time and energy.
If you’re not a good writer, you can learn! It’s a great money-making skill that can help pay the bills while you learn to become a better affiliate marketer.
Grab a few books on Amazon. Learn why people buy stuff. Learn how to write in a way that grips people, start to finish. It’s worth your investment. Because the better your content is, the more affiliate paychecks will land in your mailbox every month.
Mistake #4: Direct Linking to Sales Pages
I still see people running ads that link straight to a ClickBank vendor’s sales page. Not only can this get you penalized when advertising, but it rarely results in a sale.
People need to be warmed up first. When I switched from direct linking to sending people to an article on Medium that talks about the person’s problem and provides a few tips on how to solve it (along with my link in the bio at the bottom of the article) I saw a huge difference in clicks and sales.
Mistake #5: Being too “Salesy”
People hate being sold to. But they love buying. What’s the difference? Well, when you read a product review, do you feel like you’re being sold to, or more like you’re making a buying decision? Reading a review feels like a buying decision, right?
This is why product reviews are perfect for affiliate marketing. They allow you to show off the product, without the hard sell. It makes people feel like they’re in control and making a buying decision, instead of being sold to by a marketer.
Mistake #6: Not Leveraging Affiliate Tools
The best affiliate products on ClickBank have amazing resources for you to promote the offer and start making money. They’ll have articles, emails, ads, graphics, reviews, and heaps more. This makes your life so much easier!
When it comes to content, I always make sure I leverage it by reusing it as many times as possible. For example, I’ll take a ready-made review article and use it as a script for a quick YouTube video. I’ll even put the same content into a presentation and run a webinar, or take snippets from emails and turn them into tweets.
You can multiply your traffic and results doing this. And it’s all from content that somebody else has written for you!
Avoid these 6 mistakes and I promise, results will come!
Start thinking like a buyer – not a marketer – and you’ll be amazed how much easier affiliate marketing can be for you.
Whether you’re running paid ads or getting traffic from free places like Medium, Reddit, Quora or social media, these tips will ensure that you’re getting the affiliate commissions you deserve.
How should I know?
Because not only have these tips helped me create financial freedom as an affiliate marketer, but they’ve helped thousands of affiliates to earn hundreds of dollars per day promoting Sqribble, which is my own best-selling ClickBank product and have made money on ClickBank.
